An exciting start to Year 6 filled with secret agents, creative writing, big numbers, art and plenty of activity.

TL;DR:

  • Started reading Stormbreaker and met young secret agent Alex Rider.
  • Created atmospheric setting descriptions using ambitious vocabulary.
  • Explored place value with numbers up to 10 million.
  • Developed observational drawing skills with detailed outdoor sketches.
  • Tackled rugby and circuit training with teamwork and determination.

Year 6 have had an amazing start to the year!

In Guided Reading, we have begun reading Stormbreaker by Anthony Horowitz. The children have already been hooked by the exciting opening chapters and have enjoyed making predictions about the plot and discussing the main character, Alex Rider.

In English, we have been focusing on setting descriptions. The children have explored how authors create atmosphere and have practised making contrasts between the inside and outside of a building. Using ambitious vocabulary and sensory details, they have been working hard to paint vivid pictures for their readers.

In maths, we have started our place value unit. The children have been developing their understanding of numbers up to 10,000,000, comparing and ordering numbers, and exploring the value of digits in different places.

In Art the children went outside to do some detailed sketches. We were impressed by the patience and concentration they showed while developing their sketching skills.

In PE, the children took part in both a rugby session and a circuits session with Mr Marshall. During rugby, they practised key skills including passing, teamwork and movement. The children showed excellent effort, determination and resilience in both sessions, encouraging one another and demonstrating a positive attitude throughout.
