A positive and productive week of creativity, science and resilience for our hardworking Year 5 class.
TL;DR:
- Adapted brilliantly to learning in the hall during SATs week.
- Created imaginative writing inspired by The Door in the Wall.
- Continued enjoying Kensuke’s Kingdom in Guided Reading.
- Joined the nationwide Joe Wicks “Big Schools’ Workout”.
- Investigated friction using Newton meters in science.
This week, Year 5 have shown fantastic resilience and flexibility.
With our classroom being used for Year 6 SATs, we adapted positively to working in the hall and approached our learning with maturity and focus. The class handled this change brilliantly, continuing to produce high-quality work despite the different environment.
In English, we have been inspired by The Door in the Wall by H.G. Wells. The children have created some outstanding descriptive writing, using rich vocabulary and imaginative ideas to bring their stories to life. It has been wonderful to see their creativity shining through.
In Guided Reading, we are thoroughly enjoying Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo. The class have engaged thoughtfully with the text, showing growing confidence in their discussions and understanding of the story.
Today (Thursday), we also took part in the ‘Big Schools’ Workout’ with Joe Wicks, joining thousands of other schools across the country. It was a fun and energetic session that everyone really enjoyed!
Science has been another highlight this week. We investigated friction by testing different surfaces using Newton meters, developing our enquiry skills and scientific understanding.
Overall, I am incredibly pleased with how the class are maturing. They are showing greater independence, responsibility and a positive attitude to all aspects of school life. Well done, Year 5!
