A brilliant start to the Summer Term filled with curiosity, creativity and confident mathematical thinking.

TL;DR:

  • Visited St. Albans Church and learned about special celebrations.
  • Asked thoughtful questions about colours and church traditions.
  • Explored The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch in English.
  • Practised counting across tens boundaries up to 100.
  • Solved challenging number puzzles using teamwork and maths vocabulary.

What a fantastic start we’ve had to the Summer Term!

It has been a busy and exciting week, full of meaningful learning experiences across the curriculum.

On Tuesday, we enjoyed a visit to St. Albans Church. Father Tony spoke to the children about the different outfits he wears for important occasions such as Easter, Christmas, weddings and funerals. The children were thoroughly engaged through the visit, showing great curiosity and respect. They particularly enjoyed learning about the meanings behind different colours and impressed us all with the thoughtful questions they asked.

In English, the class has been diving into the Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch. The children have been enthusiastically exploring language, successfully using the prefix un- to change adjectives, especially when describing those cheeky, unkind seagulls! It’s been wonderful to see their confidence growing as they experiment with new vocabulary.

In Maths, the children have been working incredibly hard and showing great determination. They have been practising counting forwards and backwards across the tens boundary up to 100, as well as finding missing numbers. I was especially impressed with their problem solving skills and partner talk, as they used their mathematical vocabulary and stem sentences they have learned to tackle a challenging 100 square puzzle and piece it back together.

Well done to all of Mary Ellis for such a positive and productive start to the term, we are looking forward to another great week ahead!
