Mysterious Caves, Rugby Moves and Storm Shelters in Year 3!
An adventurous week of creative storytelling, mathematical challenges, rugby skills and outdoor problem-solving for our enthusiastic Year 3 class.
TL;DR:
- Developed tag-rugby skills with coach Paul Marshall, supported by the Jason Robinson Foundation.
- Explored 3-digit place value and counting across tens and hundreds.
- Wrote imaginative cave stories using powerful adjectives and expanded noun phrases.
- Learned knot-tying skills and built storm shelters at Forest School.
- Demonstrated fantastic teamwork, resilience and growing independence throughout the week.
What a fantastic week of learning we have had in Year 3!.
On Monday, the children were excited to begin developing their tag-rugby skills with coach Paul Marshall. Through the generous support of the Jason Robinson Foundation, the class took part in their first coaching session, focusing on key skills such as passing and evading defenders. The children showed great enthusiasm and determination throughout, and it was wonderful to see their confidence growing as they practised these new techniques.
In Maths, we have been delving deeper into the place value of 3-digit numbers. The children have been learning to count forwards and backwards across boundaries of 10 and 100, which can be quite challenging. They are becoming increasingly confident at representing numbers in different ways using practical resources, drawings and written methods. It has been fantastic to see their understanding develop and hear them explaining their mathematical thinking so clearly.
English has also been a real highlight this week. The children are now writing their own stories about mysterious and exciting caves, using all of the descriptive techniques they have been learning this term. We have been impressed by their imaginative ideas, ambitious vocabulary and detailed descriptions. Many children are beginning to confidently use expanded noun phrases and powerful adjectives to create engaging settings and characters.
Another favourite part of the week has been Forest School. The children have been learning how to tie a variety of different knots and exploring how these skills can be used to create storm shelters. They worked collaboratively, demonstrated excellent problem-solving skills and showed great resilience when testing and improving their designs.
Across all areas of the curriculum, Year 3 continue to display excellent learning behaviours. They are working hard, listening carefully, supporting one another and showing a real enthusiasm for learning. It has been a pleasure to see their confidence and independence continue to grow as we move further into the term.
I am incredibly proud of everything the children have achieved this week and cannot wait to see how they continue to develop over the coming weeks.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Mr Craig 🌟
