A magical mix of stories, science, phonics and playful learning for our curious Reception class.
TLDR :
- Acted out Room on the Broom with enthusiasm and teamwork.
- Completed a phonics scavenger hunt using Set 1 sounds.
- Learnt about body parts, the brain, heart and lungs.
- Strengthened fingers hammering pegs into pumpkins and planted seeds.
- Loved role-playing as teachers during Adventure Time!
This week we have been reading Room on the Broom. The children enjoyed role playing the story.
We ended our week by going on a phonics scavenger hunt! The children have been making amazing progress on learning the Set 1 letter sounds and used this knowledge to identify the initial sounds of seasonal pictures around the school.
Over the past few weeks, we have been finding out about the human body. We have named the main body parts, labelled our skeleton friend and have started to find out about our brain, heart and lungs!
The class have enjoyed hammering pegs into pumpkins to help build up our finger muscle strength. After a pumpkin collapsed with all the hammering, we took it outside to scoop out the seeds and pulp. Charlotte enjoyed cleaning the seeds and replanted them in our outside area. She made a sign to show where they had been buried.
During 'Adventure Time' (play), the children have taken a particular interest in role playing teacher! We have had a calendar, number and phonics teacher!
